Hi James,

Yes we are engaged now! We actually didn’t get the ring back from my sister until last weekend. When I came home on Monday, there was a sign on the door that said “Getting engaged is easy: Step 1- find the guy, Step 2- find the ring.” I went in and Armand was standing with a vase full of flowers for me, so step one wasn’t hard! I started to look around the apartment for the ring when I saw our cat, Chai, jump on the table to inspect the flowers. She had her collar on and it seemed to be sparkling! The ring was looped around her collar and when I took it off, Armand got down on his knee and officially proposed. It was such a romantic proposal and I was thrilled that Chai got to be a part of it. The ring is, of course, spectacular and I’ve been mesmerized by it (and my handsome fiance) ever since. I’ll attach a couple of pictures that we took on the day so you can see. Thanks for all of your help! Rose

Lesley, The proposal went great! Gretel loves her ring, (it is really shiny!) and I love that everyone agrees that I did a great job picking out the diamond and making the selection. I could not be happier with my investment. I will be sure to tell all my friends to look beyond the typical B & M stores and go with a true class act. Thanks for providing me such a great experience! Blessings to you and your staff always!  Grace and Peace.

madonna.jpgFrom: JewelryInsider Great news! The New York Times Style Magazine reported this weekend that “Jewelry is back in a big way.” And by big they’re saying that women should no longer be afraid to wear a true ensemble (earrings, a necklace, and (gasp!) a bracelet). Or to combine costume with vintage. Or to layer their looks. That’s where the chains come in. A close sister to this summer’s pendant necklace craze, statement chains should go big. Varying lengths and link sizes are key. Confused? Enter Madonna. Madonna not only turned 50 this weekend, but she - yet again - showed us all how to rock the jewelry trend of the season. Her birthday bash outfit was your basic black, but was complemented by a Mr. T-like showing of bling.

Thank you, Katie and Whiteflash, for your great customer service. You helped us choose such an amazing diamond. I love how it faces up so white and is super sparkly. WF did an awesome job on my custom wedding band too! My rings are definitely my dream set. Thank you! The wedding was everything we wanted it to be. Now we are just working and trying to get into shape for Hawaii for my sisters wedding in a few months. I attached some pics for you. One of my bridesmaids, Irene, also got her ring from WF! Anyways, I hope you are well!  Annie

Lady is our Chocolate Lab and Maybe is our Boston Terrier. Lady is a big help around the house as she helps carry in the groceries and will fetch the remote or phone which ever you ask her to do. Sometimes she brings them just because she is feeling starved for attention. Silly dog. They both have the run of the house and claim any bed or person to sleep on. Maybe is the tormenter of Lady always biting her tail and chasing her around. We love our girls very much as they bring lots of joy to our home. Enjoy the picture of Lady with Cameron and Maybe with Nathan.

a-hiphop.jpgFrom: JCKonline  Blinged-out hip-hop jewelry has often been dismissed by “serious” jewelers as a fad or a tiny niche, but auction house Phillips de Pury & Co. is lending the category a new level of industry cred. In a first-of-its-kind event by a major auction house, Phillips will hold a “Hip Hop’s Crown Jewels” auction on Oct. 1. Phillips calls the 50 pieces of jewelry “complex cultural artifacts embedded with style, and indelibly marked with narratives of class, religion, materialism, and the American Dream.” A portion of the sales will benefit Russell Simmons’ nonprofit organizations, including the Diamond Empowerment Fund. The items, from celebrities ranging from LL Cool J to Tupac Shakur to Jay-Z, are broken down by Phillips into the Golden Era of hip-hop (1980 to early 1990s), the mid-1990s battle between East and West Coast sounds, and hip-hop’s current mainstream age. Among the highlights of the auction are Biz Markie’s black-and-white diamond Headphones Pendant in white gold; Slick Rick’s multicolor diamond-set eye patch; Tupac Shakur’s diamond, ruby, and gold Crown Ring engraved “Pac & Dada 1996″ (Dada refers to Quincy Jones’s daughter Kidada, who was dating Shakur); Notorious B.I.G.’s yellow gold, stainless steel, and diamond Rolex; and the world’s largest diamond pendant (according to Guinness World Records), Lil’ Jon’s colorless and fancy yellow diamond and gold Crunk Ain’t Dead pendant, measuring 7.5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The auction is led by Phillips’ worldwide head of contemporary jewelry Alia Varsano and Minya Oh, hip-hop authority and author of Bling Bling: Hip Hop’s Crown Jewels. The public preview of the jewels will be held at Phillips de Pury’s New York location Sept. 22 to Sept. 30. www.phillipsdepury.com

Arvind Juneja of Jaipur, listed the ruby, eBay India said in a statement. Juneja has a family jewelry business on eBay. He has sold more than 90 pieces of jewelry and gems since October, 2007 on the Web site. His eBay id is “Jewelsafari.” “I am an avid collector of precious gemstones,” said Juneja, in the statement. “I wanted to trade my collection with the buyers who really understand the worth of these priceless and unique gemstones. I am glad that this stone is in the hands of someone who appreciates its true worth.” The ruby is certified by American Gem Trade Association Gem Testing Center, according to the statement.

derekzahajko_0806.jpgHi Bob, Just wanted to say thanks for all your help with helping me select and purchase my diamond ring! I really appreciate it! I cannot express enough how satisfied I am and how much I love the diamond, and the ring; they’re absolutely beautiful – and they look even better on her hand!! I proposed this weekend with success! She loves the ring, and can’t stop staring at the diamond. Her aunt who used to work for Tiffany’s couldn’t get over the fact that it was the most beautiful diamond she has EVER seen, and made me tell her all the details about the diamond. Thanks again for your help – I will definitely be recommending Whiteflash to anyone who asks (and probably some who don’t)!

Warmest Regards, Derek

kelli-and-ernie.jpg

Sheerah, My engagement ring is astoundingly beautiful -– the emerald cut diamond is gorgeous — we especially love the design! A very simple ‘east-west’ ring setting — a symbolic representation and a continuous reminder of the endless (as far as the east is from the west) love poured out by God for us, to us and for each other–we know it’s not a coincidence God brought Ernie from the east coast and I from the west coast together. The proposal wasn’t a complete surprise. We both expected to attend Bible study but Ernie came to pick me up with a ring in hand — he popped the question! We had an impromptu celebration at Jake’s in Del Mar.

Thank you so much for your assistance in guiding us to such an exquisite diamond. Your professionalism and expertise provided such personal touch service from my initial inquiry to Ernie having received the finished product! I will be in touch with you when it’s time to talk wedding bands. I already have the designs in mind! For me, I would like two micro eternity bands with baguette diamonds to sandwich the engagement ring and for Ernie, his band will be open and a baguette diamond will lie across east-west. We truly appreciated your hands on service and friendly follow up!

iphone_diamondcase.jpgFrom: tgdaily Does the idea of a cheap iPhone 3G case make you think twice about wrapping your new phone in it? How about if the case were set with diamonds and projected to cost you around $15,000? That’s the idea of this new Diamond Case from Noreve. The Noreve Diamond Case is set with 272 diamonds, amounting to around 6.8 Karats. The diamonds are woven into the handcrafted leather of the case, with fifteen color choices being available for the case’s body. The diamonds, for those wishing to know, are all said to be “between 18 and 22 points and of VS1 quality and G color.” Each case is custom made as well, taking three weeks to construct. Now we aren’t saying your average person will run out and buy one of these cases, given they cost as some compact cars.

That being said, if you have the dough and don’t mind raising your mugging factor risk on the streets, especially if you considered purchasing the $1000 I am Rich application , it might be a way to flash your wealth and iPhone 3G at the same time. If you buy one of these though, you probably have enough cash as well to get yourself a security guard.

From: askmen.com For many guys, buying jewelry for a woman is intimidating and discouraging. Like her shoes and her clothes, her jewelry speaks directly to her personal tastes, yet it uses a language and lexicon most of us find obscure and barely familiar. Meanwhile, some pieces of jewelry are loaded with symbolism ready to pop us like land mines if we’re not careful. As a result, buying the right piece of jewelry begins to feel a lot like being down to your last dart, and in the wide sprawl around the bull’s-eye, around getting it right, there seems to be a thousand ways to miss the mark and get it all wrong. So, here are some suggestions — both general and more specific — to steer you in the right direction. GENERAL SUGGESTIONS:

Listen to her  Easier said than done for many of us, but in this instance it more accurately means to be listening for when she does drop a hint. If push comes to shove, try to induce a hint: Take her to the mall on some pretense and walk her past every jewelry store in the complex. She’s bound to point out something that catches her eye.

Look at her    Over the course of a week, as you see her dressed up for different occasions — work, a dinner out, a party — take inventory of each piece of jewelry she wears, noting as best you can the nature of the jewelry. Ascertaining what she wears and what she doesn’t gives you a solid head start. After all, if she never wears earrings, there’s little point buying her a pair; but if she can’t make up her mind between hoops or studs, you may be on to something.

Appraise her taste   Using the results of your inventory, then broadening that scope to include her wider style in clothes, appraise her tastes. Does she have finer tastes, getting weak-kneed in the presence of another woman’s massive diamond ring? Or are you one of the luckier guys whose companion prefers the variety and accessibility of less expensive costume jewelry?

Avoid rings   You’ve heard of promise rings, engagement rings and wedding rings. Ever heard of a girlfriend ring? Of course not, because they don’t exist. Nor should they. You can’t win a fight against centuries of symbolism, so unless you’re already married or you plan to give her this ring on bended knee (more symbolism), the gift of a ring is just too loaded. It’s not cute nor is it appreciated by women unless your intentions are clearly that of solid commitment and a future walk down the aisle.

Ask for advice    This is dangerous ground, so tread lightly. The problem with asking her friends for advice is that you’re engaging one woman in a conspiracy of silence against another , and almost inevitably something’s gonna give. Instead of having to find this out too late, eschew the friends and stick with reliable family members. Sisters are an excellent source of information, especially if they are close in age and spend a great deal of time together. No doubt they’ve poured of many a childhood fantasy about knights in shining armor — and their gifts.

olympics.jpg From JCKStyle: The Olympic Games opened this week in Beijing, and athletes will, of course, be competing for those top three medals. What they won’t be competing for, however, are simply the usual three metals. For the first time in Olympic history, winners will don more than just gold, silver, and bronze. In honor of Chinese culture, where jade plays an important role, the stone has been incorporated into the medals. Each of the 3,000 medals awarded to athletes will bear bands of jade, which symbolizes honor and virtue. Gold medals will incorporate white jade, silvers bear light green jade, and dark green jade will highlight bronze.

Meanwhile, in other Olympic/precious jewelry news (who knew?), gymnast Shawn Johnson has her own new line of fine jewels. Brodkey’s (an 11-store chain in Iowa and Nebraska), developed the line bearing the name of the 16-year-old Iowa native after a necklace they gave her as a gift (featuring her name in diamonds across emerald-, sapphire-, ruby-, and onyx-encrusted Olympic rings) garnered widespread attention. Pieces from the Shawn Johnson Jewelry Collection start at $99, and a portion of the sale price will go to the U.S. Olympic Committee, which helps athletes train.

rubies.jpg From: JCKonline Bush signs legislation banning imports of ruby and jade from Myanmar
– JCK-Jewelers Circular Keystone, 7/31/2008 11:06:00 AM
President Bush signed legislation Tuesday designed to punish Myanmar’s brutal ruling regime by banning the importation of rubies and jade from that country into the U.S.

The “Tom Lantos Block Burmese JADE Act of 2008” bans Burmese gem imports, something that already is the voluntary policy of retailers such as Tiffany’s and Bulgari. U.S. officials say Myanmar has been evading earlier gem-targeting sanctions by laundering the stones in other countries before they are shipped to the United States. Congress approved the bill July 22. (more…)

pj.jpgI just wanted to write and thank all of you for such an incredible experience. When I knew that I wanted to ask Jenna to marry me I was expecting an experience filled with stress and frustration, I’ve heard many a horror story about buying engagement rings. My friend John pointed me to your website and I must say I owe him at least a case because of it. From the second I signed up to the site to the day my ring arrived in 3 boxes and a bag (talk about anticipation, sitting in the parking lot ripping through all the packaging), the communication, care and information from all of you was more then I could have hoped for. From Kristin’s initial call and help picking out a great ring, to the emails from Shandel and Priscilla with information about the order and financials, Judi working with me getting my buddy John his referral, the beautiful picture from Tim, and finally the shipping emails from Vera and Jamie. Questions were answered within minutes instead of days and I never once wondered where my ring was or if you got my money or how long it was going to take. In the end not only did I get one of the most beautiful rings I’ve ever seen (especially when it’s sitting on her finger), but the best experience I have ever had buying anything. If asked I would recommend you without hesitation. Since we got engaged on a cruise ship, we were lucky enough to be surrounded by dozens of photographers all ready and willing to take some great engagement photos. I attached the one I think turned out best below. Thank you again so much for all your help and the beautiful ring! PJ Linke

Sheerah,

Everything went as well as I could have hoped. My main goal was to keep it a surprise, so I was able to do that and everything else fell in line. She definately loved the ring and she will probably end up keeping it as is, now that she is attached to it. I’m not sure if I mentioned this originally in our communications, but we had an Alaskan cruise planned and in one of our ports (Juneau), we had a Glacier Trek scheduled with a local company there. I arranged it beforehand with the company to do the proposal on the trek, somewhere on the glacier. The guide picked his favorite spot toward the end of our hike on the glacier itself. The total trip was probably 6-7 miles, so we were pretty exhausted by the time I actually proposed. I’m attaching some pictures from the glacier. The one with Stacy and I in it is right after the proposal.

Here’s another anecdote that you may enjoy. I don’t know how familiar you are with cruises, but in general they push jewelery sales pretty heavily, both on the ship and in each port via dozens of jewelers such as Diamonds International. DI, of course, pushes their Hearts on Fire branded H&A cut. In casually comparing my WF diamond to the various diamonds in the display cases, most times it was not even close. The WF diamond destroyed mostly everything. The only thing comparable by eye was the HoF, but the price difference is definately not comparable! Anyway that made both of us feel pretty good, so I thought you might get a kick out of that. :)

Isn’t this is a great picture of our very own Lindsey and her sweetie, Mozart! She adores the little guy, as you can see by this shot of the two of them! Here is what Lindsey said about the picture:

“This is Mozart and me. He was keeping me company while I washed my sheets. :) He likes to run and jump on me to wake me up in the morning and Saturday he had muddy paws so he got my sheets all dirty.”

From: Blogimages The oldest piece of gold jewelry ever found in the Americas has been discovered near Lake Tikicaca in Peru. The necklace was made about 4,000 years ago. It is 600 years older than any other gold jewelry found in the Western Hemisphere to date. Mark Aldenderfer discovered the necklace while excavating a site for human remains. The necklace was actually found about seven years ago but the find was kept quiet for fear of looters raiding the site. It is believed to have belonged to the Andean people who lived around that time period. The Andeans were hunters and gatherers before settling down in the Lake Tikicaca area. This important find shows the emergence of status symbols long before the rule of kings and queens. The necklace is being held at the National Institute of Peru and might soon be displayed in a museum.

crown.jpg From: Blogimages Part of a very turbulent history and much thievery, the British Crown Jewels represent the regalia and vestments worn by the king or queen of the United Kingdom during a coronation ceremony and other state functions. In all, the collection includes crowns, orbs, swords, scepters, and other regalia.

Under British law, the originals of the crown jewels and implements of the State cannot leave England and are displayed in the Tower of London. Many of the objects descend directly from the pre-Reformation period and hold religious and sacral connotation. Worn by monarchs at their coronation, the Imperial State Crown was made in 1937 for King George VI. The crown is set with jewels of great antiquity and historical significance. In all, the crown possesses 2,868 diamonds, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and five rubies. The Imperial Crown of India was created when King George V visited Delhi as Emperor of India. As British law prohibits the removal of a Crown Jewel from the country to prevent pawning, a new crown was made. One of the heaviest crowns in the collection, the Imperial contains more than 6,000 diamonds. After they were stolen from Westminster Abbey, the Crown Jewels have been kept in the Tower of London since 1303. It is believed that most, if not all, of the jewels were recovered not long after being found in display window of a London jeweler. During World War II, the jewels were taken out of the Tower and stored somewhere in secret. Stories suggest they may have been kept in the basement vaults of the Sun Life Insurance company in Montreal, Canada or in the Round Tower of Windsor Castle. It is more probable that they were housed at Windsor Castle since by law the Crown is not allowed to leave the country. The dollar value of all the gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and pearls in the royal collection make it beyond comparison. Added to the fact that the crowns and other artifacts have all been worn and used by kings and queens of England makes the collection absolutely priceless.
