LSU is #1 in the AP Poll for the first time since 1959.

After a 34-9 win over Tulane on Saturday, LSU took the top spot from the USC Trojans–who were a victim of their own sloth, eeking out a meager victory over unranked Washington 27-24.

Apparently the panel of voters didn’t think much of the Trojans half-hearted victory–ranking them #2 in the land, even though the Tigers had to overcome a slow start of their own, leading by a paltry 10-9 at the half over their cousins from New Orleans.

This during a weekend filled with upsets, where 5 of the top 10 teams suffered losses that sent them plummeting in the polls. After all the dust settled, the Tigers came out on top–setting up a monster game this Saturday where the #1-ranked Tigers will face #9 Florida in the swamp. (8:00pm EST-CBS)

Oh–and the Buckeyes have jumped to #4 in the polls. Sorry Traci….but I’m a Gator fan this week. ;)
