James, Just wanted to let you know that we are engaged and are in the full planning stages of the wedding. MJ loves the ring and neither of us can stop looking at it. We’re aiming for the end of March, so we have our work cut out for us. I’ve attached the story of how the night went as well as some pictures of the 2 of us. I asked the question on the 2nd of November, but didn’t have a chance to get engagement pictures of us until last week. Enjoy. - Austen & MJ, TX

Austen’s Perspective:

“We had talked about marriage for a month or two and had been to different stores to find rings that MJ liked. I found a ring online (www.whiteflash.com) with a beautiful diamond and ordered it, because I figured a high quality diamond like that wouldn’t last long on the market. I wasn’t really expecting to purchase a ring for another month, but I figured why not. It came and I was dazzled by how much it sparkled and knew I had chosen the right ring. I figured she suspected that I would propose on either Thanksgiving or Christmas, but I wanted to do it before then to surprise her. I had pretty much made up my mind on how I was going to propose, but I didn’t know when I would propose. On a whim one day, I decided to put my plan into motion. I knew she would be coming over to my house very soon, so I had to hurry to get everything set up. I had a set of clues I placed around the house to lead her to me. I placed the first clue at the entrance to my house and sent her on a scavenger hunt. I was hiding in the dark in an empty room in my house. I heard her enter and my heart started racing. She read the first clue and must have been a little suspicious, but she called to see if I would answer anyway. I heard her go outside, then back inside, finding all of my clues. Finally, I heard her get the last clue and start walking down the hall to where I was. She opened the door and just stood there in the dark looking beautiful, although slightly frightened. I turned the lights on, showed her the ring, and said “Marry me.” I could tell she was completely caught off guard. She was so stunned, she couldn’t look at the ring, instead staring at me to make sure I wasn’t joking. After a couple seconds, she said, “Really?” then paused for a second, then said OK and held her hand out for me to put the ring on. Then we hugged and kissed and just stood there in the room for a long time. Finally, my dog Tex had enough of being ignored and started barking, so we moved to the couch where we could snuggle and she could admire her ring. I was very nervous, and excited, but everything went exactly as I planned.”

MJ’s Perspective:

“Austen tells the story better than I ever could, but basically, he ambushed me. It was a complete sneak attack and I will never forget the anxiety and anticipation I felt as I hastily found clues in the search for him. It was in the back of my mind that this was a proposal plot unfolding, but wasn’t expecting that until maybe Christmas or New Year’s. Apparently, he had been lying to me for a week about getting a ring and even had me looking at rings online until the day before, so I had no idea. Turns out, he had a ring and was too impatient to wait more than three days. He was given the green light to deceive me on this topic only because I wanted to be surprised…well done my friend. He had me running all over the house inside and out looking for him until finally, the search ended in the back room. Austen was on one knee in the dark for some reason unbeknownst to me at the time. Someone eventually turned the light on and he said something that sounded like a proposal, but I think I blacked out because I don’t really remember. I didn’t know what to say, so kept kissing him. What finally came out was something like “really” then “ok” which translates to “of course”. I never give concrete responses to any serious questions, so that wasn’t unusual and in no way reflected uncertainty. Eventually I actually looked at the ring and it is perfect in every way. I still can’t stop looking at it…neither can he!”
