Are you superstitous? I AM! There are lots of “urban legions” connected with the onset of a New Year! Some of them are very familiar to us all, such as kissing at midnight….but did you know that it’s very bad luck to do laundry on the first day of the year?? Also, eating certain food on New Years Day is supposed to be significant. Since moving to Texas 15 years ago today, I have become familiar with some of the “southern” superstitions. Tonight I was invited a friends house to eat black eyed peas (for a healthy year) and cabbage (for wealth). Attached is an interesting summary of some of the popular beliefs connected with the first day of the year. Have a wonderful 2008! I’ll be busy catching up on my laundry the 2nd day of the year….don’t want to take any chances!!!

  1. Hmmm…. looks like I’m doomed… I did laundry and took out the garbage…LOL

  2. I had me some black-eyed peas… Seems that if you’d just eat them every day you might get healthy that way. :)
