Woman mistakenly gives jewelry to food driveFrom: KATU.COM  PORTLAND, Ore. - Theresa Hekel was in a hurry as the postman closed in on her home recently. The Vancouver, Wash., woman grabbed cans of food from her cupboard and filled a plastic bag to support the Postal Service’s canned food drive for those facing shortages. It wasn’t until later that she realized what exactly she had given away.
Tucked in with all her cans was a disguised safe that held her jewelry, most of which was family heirlooms and included her wedding ring.  Hekel said she completely forgot about the safe, which looks like a can of food but has a special lid on it. “It’s not the dollar amount, it’s what that jewelry meant to me,” Hekel said. Accompanied by her parents, Hekel journeyed to the Clark County warehouse where the food will be sorted and distributed. But they were overwhelmed by the size of the search. Hekel said the canned food was at the bottom of dozens of pallets that held dozens more boxes of food. They could not search them all.  Hekel hopes that either a volunteer that is distributing the food or a recipient of the food will find the fake can and return it. She is offering a reward for the return of her jewelry.
